Training for the Under-10 Girls resumes on WEDNESDAY MARCH 6th from 6:30 - 7:30pm in Garrycastle.

End-of-Year Presentation

[2024-10-02]

On Wednesday, the under-10 girls had their end-of-year party. The team had a great time and enjoyed pizzas from “Centre Perks” – where Fergal makes the best pizzas according to the team!

On the night Annabelle Ganly received an award for her goalkeeping skills from former Roscommon Senior Goalkeeper Darren Lennon, having made numerous saves which were undoubtedly better than Gordon Banks save in the ‘66 World Cup!

Sofie, Shona, Ella and Ava were acknowledged for their near 100% training attendance.

There was a raffle on the night for Garrycastle water bottles with beanie hats for the winter to follow.

Well done to all the players and parents for making it a fantastic season. A special shout out to team manager Thomas Duignan and all the team mentors, and a very special shout out to FLO Stella Devine.

Under-10 Blitzes

[2024-09-28]

On Saturday the under-10 girls played their final blitz of a very long season. We fielded two teams and played Rosemount, Ballynacargy and St Josephs.

Hanna put in a great performance in goals with Sophie solid in defence all day, showing great determination and grit. Mia was fantastic supporting the team across the pitch, making great runs through the centre of the pitch and scoring points from afar.

Eimear and Michelle ran all day, giving critical passes and creating scores. Fiadh scored a great point from the sideline.

Ella who is out injured came to watch her team mates play.

Well done all and enjoy the break. See you in 2025!

[2024-09-21]

On Saturday we travelled to our near neighbours in Athlone GAA for our penultimate blitz of the 2024 season. We fielded two teams and played matches against Moate All-Whites, Milltownpass, Kilbeggan & Ballynacargy. On a very windy day, the girls did extremely well in all of their matches. Once again, Lauren was great in the forwards and Isabelle continued her great form showing fantastic determination. Lucia and Ava were excellent with their support play. We wish Ella a speedy recovery following her injury picked up during a match. Ella showed true spirit by wanting to play on regardless but after consultation, had to step aside. Well done to all the players, mentors and supporters.

Shona, Sophia, RosieKate and Sophie were solid in defence with Annabelle putting in some fierce tackles and winning the ball back for her team. Ava and Sarah showed great work in attack and set up some great scores as well as scoring themselves. On Sunday morning as part of the celebrations to mark the official opening of the new gym, a clash of the titans took place between the U10 girls and U10 boys. In all there were six games as the girls fielded two teams.

The over all display by the girls was excellent, most notably the goal keeping by Caoimhe, Saoirse & Fiadh. Ella showed great skill with a solo run down the centre of the pitch to score a winning goal in the first match. Eva's soloing skills and hand passing were excellent.

Well done to all players. A special thanks to Michael Mulvihill and Niall Ward for refereeing the games.

U10 Blitz in Athlone

On Saturday, Garrycastle fielded two teams at the Athlone blitz. The team played Goldsmith Girls, Tyrrellspass and Ballymore. Yet again, the girls put in a fantastic performance. The support play and hand passing was evident for all to see. The goal keeping skills have much improved which can only be attributed to Darren Lennon taking time out to coach the girls on this very difficult position.

A big thank you to the team for welcoming Fiadh’s cousin Joe, who is on holidays from Nova Scotia. It was Joe’s first time at an LGFA match and he is eager to tell his friends at home of the great day he had with Garrycastle.

Well done all!

Huge congratulations to our U10 girls’ team who participated in a blitz day at GAA headquarters Croke Park on Monday last. It was an early start for all, but the girls were in top form despite this & sang the whole way to Dublin.  They played 4 games in total with some fantastic skills on display. One of their games was against Clontarf GAA, the Dublin club where the late, great and sadly missed Enda Mulvihill was a member.

Thanks so much to our coaches today Seán, Ciarán and Nuala, always so positive and encouraging. Thanks to all the parents (& grandparents) & supporters who travelled to Croke Park to cheer the girls on. Thank you to all at Croke Park & Westmeath LGFA who were involved in organising this event.

Finally, massive congratulations to all our brilliant under-10 girls who were fantastic ambassadors for our club, both on and off the field. We are so proud of each and every one of you. The future for Garrycastle GAA is certainly bright!

2020 Report

Under-10 Girls

The under-10 girls enjoyed some very beneficial training sessions before the end of this season. They enjoyed participating in ever popular Street League Competition before this was discontinued due to Covid-19 restrictions. The focus this year was on developing confidence and mastery of basic skills. They played 2 matches vs. Castledaly in July and September, and the progress that all players had made in that space of time was very evident. Well done to all.

Mentors: Karl Henson & Sinéad Cosgrove

2020 Street Leagues, Sunday September 27th 2020

On Sunday morning the Garrycastle U7 and U9 Boys once again joined forces with the U8 and U10 girls to contest Rounds 5 and 6 of the Garrycastle Street Leagues.

With plenty of skills and determination on show; the team spirit, sportsmanship and team work was outstanding in all teams.  With the full time whistles barely blown, focus immediately switched to the penultimate weekend of games as the players compared scorelines and talked tactics for the matches ahead.
