Under-10 Contacts for 2023

Training for the Under-10 Girls resumes on WEDNESDAY MARCH 6th from 6:30 - 7:30pm in Garrycastle.

Under-10 Blitz

[2024-07-13]

On Saturday, the girls travelled to St. Josephs in Streamstown, and played against St. Josephs, Tyrrellspass and Rosemount.

We fielded one team with five rolling subs. On what turned out to be a very warm morning, the girls put in another fantastic performance. Lottie was great in goals and her kick outs were spot on. Shona, Sophia, RosieKate and Sophie were solid in defence with Annabelle putting in some fierce tackles and winning the ball back for her team. Ava and Sarah showed great work in attack and set up some great scores as well as scoring themselves. Saoirse was clinical again in front of goal scoring two and covered every blade of grass on the pitch. Sophies solo skills were on display and she helped out greatly in defence slowing down and halting many an attack.

Amalie and Eimear showed their hand passing and their kicking skills. Mia worked very well in midfield catching passes, scoring points from a far out distance and setting up Fiadh, who made two great solo runs to score two points in the last game. Well done to the whole team and thank you to parents/guardians.

Thank you to Stella our FLO who looked after the subs and made sure the team had plenty of water. We hope the girls received an ice-cream or two on the way home!

Gym Opening in Garrycastle

[2024-07-07]

On Sunday morning as part of the celebrations to mark the official opening of the new gym, a clash of the titans took place between the U10 girls and U10 boys. In all there were six games as the girls fielded two teams.

The over all display by the girls was excellent, most notably the goal keeping by Caoimhe, Saoirse & Fiadh. Ella showed great skill with a solo run down the centre of the pitch to score a winning goal in the first match. Eva's soloing skills and hand passing were excellent.

Well done to all players. A special thanks to Michael Mulvihill and Niall Ward for refereeing the games.

U10 Blitz in Athlone

[2024-06-29]

On Saturday, Garrycastle fielded two teams at the Athlone blitz. The team played Goldsmith Girls, Tyrrellspass and Ballymore. Yet again, the girls put in a fantastic performance. The support play and hand passing was evident for all to see. The goal keeping skills have much improved which can only be attributed to Darren Lennon taking time out to coach the girls on this very difficult position.

A big thank you to the team for welcoming Fiadh’s cousin Joe, who is on holidays from Nova Scotia. It was Joe’s first time at an LGFA match and he is eager to tell his friends at home of the great day he had with Garrycastle.

Well done all!

LGFA 50th Anniversary Blitz

[2024-06-22]

On Saturday, Garrycastle hosted a “Fun Day Blitz” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the LGFA.

The blitz comprised of Roscommon teams Padraig Pearses, Clann Na nGael and Westmeath teams, Goldsmiths Girls, Caulry and Garrycastle.

In all we had 120 girls playing six games over three pitches. It was a fantastic day and a great opportunity to play our Roscommon neighbours. The skills on display from all were fantastic and the players put in some great performances on what turned out to be a very warm day.

Many thanks to all the clubs who travelled on the day to make this happen.

Special thanks to our club referees notably, Andrew Henson, Ellen Parker, Sarah Galvin and Alanna Gaffey and FLO Stella Devine for all the hard work.

Under-10 Blitz in Kilbeggan

[2024-06-15]

On Saturday, Garrycastle Under-10s fielded two teams at a blitz hosted by Kilbeggan. The girls used their hand passing skills combined with tackling with great results. Well done all.

A big shout out to Lottie O Shea who recently joined the Garrycastle U10 girls and to “Scooby” the dog pictured here with Shona. Scooby is our U10 girls mascot.

Under-10 2024 Blitz!

[2024-05-24]

On Saturday morning, Garrycastle hosted a home blitz with Saint Josephs, Goldsmiths Girls, Castledaly and Rosemount attending.

Garrycastle fielded two teams playing four games and performed very well. The hand passing skills were excellent and the determination for tackles combined with never give up attitude was very noticeable.

Keep up the good work all.

Our Under-10 girls who made their first communion 11th May 2024. Congratulations!

Thanks to all the coaches on both sides for making this a fun event.

We hope all the players and parents enjoyed the evening.

Under-10 Girls in Croke Park, August 15th, 2022

Huge congratulations to our U10 girls’ team who participated in a blitz day at GAA headquarters Croke Park on Monday last. It was an early start for all, but the girls were in top form despite this & sang the whole way to Dublin.  They played 4 games in total with some fantastic skills on display. One of their games was against Clontarf GAA, the Dublin club where the late, great and sadly missed Enda Mulvihill was a member.

Thanks so much to our coaches today Seán, Ciarán and Nuala, always so positive and encouraging. Thanks to all the parents (& grandparents) & supporters who travelled to Croke Park to cheer the girls on. Thank you to all at Croke Park & Westmeath LGFA who were involved in organising this event.

Finally, massive congratulations to all our brilliant under-10 girls who were fantastic ambassadors for our club, both on and off the field. We are so proud of each and every one of you. The future for Garrycastle GAA is certainly bright!

Comhghairdeas libh go léir !

2020 Report

Under-10 Girls

The under-10 girls enjoyed some very beneficial training sessions before the end of this season. They enjoyed participating in ever popular Street League Competition before this was discontinued due to Covid-19 restrictions. The focus this year was on developing confidence and mastery of basic skills. They played 2 matches vs. Castledaly in July and September, and the progress that all players had made in that space of time was very evident. Well done to all.

2020 Street Leagues, Sunday September 27th 2020

On Sunday morning the Garrycastle U7 and U9 Boys once again joined forces with the U8 and U10 girls to contest Rounds 5 and 6 of the Garrycastle Street Leagues.

With plenty of skills and determination on show; the team spirit, sportsmanship and team work was outstanding in all teams.  With the full time whistles barely blown, focus immediately switched to the penultimate weekend of games as the players compared scorelines and talked tactics for the matches ahead.

2020 Street Leagues, Sunday September 13th 2020

Sunday morning saw the start of the annual Garrycastle Street League tournament at the Club grounds. For the 2020 competition, mixed teams from Under 10 and Under 8 Girls along with the Under 9 and Under 7 Boys squads took to the field to do battle.

On a hugely enjoyable morning's football, 63 players took part in the opening round of fiercely competitive fixtures in a wonderful showcase of skill, teamwork, fun and friendship.

The organising committee would like to express most sincere thanks to the local schools, Cornamaddy NS, Clonbonny NS, St Ciaran's NS Baylin, Coosan NS, Scoil na gCeithre Máistrí and Ballinahown NS for their fantastic show of community support to provide jerseys for the teams.
