Minor Girls Championship Semi-final [19 November 2018]
CLAN GAELS 7-12 GARRYCASTLE 4-12
The minor girls bowed out of the championship after a defeat to Clan Gaels in Multyfarnham on Sunday. However, there was great end to end football from then on with great scores on both sides, and despite a spirited performance and a strong finish, we lost out on a score line of 4-12 to 7-12. Overall the girls performed very well in the championship improving with every game and with all of this side still minor next year they can look forward to next season. Under-14 Girls 'B' Championship Final [23 September 2018]
Garrycastle 9-06, Ballycomoyle 3-02
Garrycastle under 14 girls defeated Ballcomoyle on Saturday in Pairc Chiarain to win the B division county championship. A nervous looking Garrycastle got off to the worst possible start with Ballycomoyle scoring a well worked goal in the first minute, and they remained under pressure for the next few minutes but with Arlene Devery to the fore, the defence stood firm.
Gradually, with the midfield duo of Tegan Foley and Erika Lowe getting on top of their opponents Garrycastle started to get their fluid style of play going and points from Elaine McGovern (2) and her sister Amy, pulled them level. A huge turning point in the match then came when a good team move ended with a pass from Roisin Murphy to Ciara Finn who struck a wonderful goal and from there Garrycastle never looked back. Aoife Galvin added a great point immediately after and with the Ballycomoyle kick out now under huge pressure further goals came in quick succession from Erika Lowe, Elaine McGovern, and Ciara Finn who also added a point from a free. Ballycomoyle did manage to pull a goal back just before the break but Garrycastle went in at half time with a well deserved 4-05 to 2-00 lead.
The start of the second half saw Ballycomoyle pour on some early pressure and they scored a goal and a point to narrow the gap. However, this only caused the Garrycastle girls to increase their intensity and they continued to pour forward in search of further scores. Elaine McGovern scored three more goals and a point to finish with a remarkable personal total of 4-3 while Aoife Galvin scored two goals of her own, all scores coming from excellent team play. The back line led brilliantly by captain Roisin McNamara and centre half back Sarah Carter continued to defend zealously driving the ball back to the Ballycomoyle half of the pitch time after time and they allowed only one more point, from a long range free, before the end. The final whistle blew with a full time score of Garrycastle 9-06 to Ballycomoyle 3-02.
This win was the culmination of a great season for the girls and a fitting reward for the effort all of the squad put in at countless training sessions throughout the year. The girls won all of their five matches in the round robin stage of the championship and were involved in a super semi-final with their neighbours Athlone but this was their best team performance of the season.
Thanks to manager Declan Finn and mentors, Katrina Jameson, Anne Kearney, Noelle O'Donnell and Colin Clyne for all their effort through get the year. Thanks too to Paddy, Sarah, Trish, Ger and Aoife for the extra coaching they provided and also to all of the parents and guardians for their great support.

Westmeath LGFA U12 (Division C) Semi-Final [16 September 2018]
The Downs 0-3 Garrycastle 7-3
Our under 12 side recorded a comprehensive victory over The Downs in the C semi-final to earn a place in the final against Shandonagh. As The Downs had topped their group they had home advantage for this game. However, the Garrycastle girls took off right from the start, dominating most positions, and scores from Hazel Donegan, Jessica Frawley, Moya McKiernan, Kacey Mulvihill and Lara Ellen Keena McDaid, gave them a healthy lead of 3-2 to 0-3 at half time.
The second half saw the same pattern continue and four more goals saw Garrycastle safely through to the final. Kaleigh Clyne in goals pulled off excellent saves when called upon but she was got great protection from defenders Rihanna Lowe, Emma Connaughton and Erin McHugh who kept the pressure on The Downs forwards all through, putting in great tackles and holding the opposition scoreless in the second half. Emma Connaughton and Gemma Duffy were strong in the half back line driving the ball up the field. Our midfield pairing of Jessica Frawley and Kacey Mulvihill worked tirelessly with some excellent one twos and feeding the ball in well to Hazel Donegan whose finishing was exemplary. The other forwards were superb passing the ball well and taking their scores with Moya McKiernan doing particularly well. The many under 10s on the squad showed great determination and no fear in defending and passing and will have learned so much from this championship run.
Congratulations to all the players and management on this achievement particularly when early in the year the team was struggling to field but the persistence shown by all involved has paid off. The final is presently fixed for the weekend 29/30th September, full details yet to be confirmed. Best of luck to all.

However, Ballycomoyle narrowed the deficit to one point with two goals in quick succession five minutes from time.
