St. Patricks Day Parade

A huge contingent of Garrycastle underage players, boys and girls, from the Under-10, Under-8 and Under-6/Nursery groups took part in the St. Patricks day parade in Athlone. The under-10 group led the way, giving a number of football skills demonstrations to an appreciative audience through the town. The Garrycastle float was a huge success, designed in the style of a castle, with king and queen in residence, and music and dancing galore. The under-8 and under-6/nursery squads marched in large numbers, with great colour and excitement, and it is fair to say that these youngest members of our club were one of the hits of the parade this year.

Absolutely huge thanks are due to the very hardworking club social committee for putting the excellent float together, (especially Sinead Shine for the excellent artwork), to the team mentors and supporters for the well organised groups of players, to our dancers, Aoife, Doireann, Erin and Lara Ellen who spent many hours practicing for the big day, to the excellent musicians on the float, to our King and Queen for the day, Conor McCormack and Molly Galvin, to Alo Daly for providing the Lorry, and Jim McHugh for driving on the day, and to everyone else who helped in any way in designing, decorating, organising and the many, many other jobs which go into making these events such a success.
