GARRYCASTLE 5-16, ST. JOSEPHS 1-12

The club’s third team collected two much-needed points from this one-sided game in Garrycastle last Friday. Several players were playing their second game in 24 hours and were eager to make amends for the poor display on Thursday. The game was less than two minutes old when Robbie Fox aggravated a hamstring injury and had to be replaced by Rory McGowan. The visitors settled quickly and led by 0-2 to 0-1 after six minutes before Garrycastle enjoyed a very good spell and scored a goal and four points without reply. Johnny McGuire made a welcome return after injury and created several openings for his colleagues. Garrycastle really cut loose in the second quarter and hit four more goals in a ten-minute spell which effectively wrapped up the points.

After leading by 5-7 to 0-6 at the break, Garrycastle coasted through the second half and ran out easy winners. They will know only too well, however, that more difficult hurdles will have to be surmounted if they are to secure their place in this division.
