Garrycastle 2-6     Moate All Whites 2-9

Garrycastle produced a disappointing and patchy performance against a more determined Moate team in their opening game of the Division 6 campaign. The home team was first off the mark with a point from Neale Rattigan and Garrycastle were very lively in the opening 10 minutes. A mistake in the Garrycastle defence resulted in a penalty for the visitors which was expertly converted. Garrycastle responded well to this set back and a well worked move saw Paul Mulvihill palm the ball to the net after being well set up by Tom O’Halloran. Paul Mulvihill added to the tally with another goal shortly afterwards and a Kenny Dolan free had the home team in control of the match at this early stage. Then the momentum of the game shifted as Moate upped their performance and Garrycastle began to lose their way. Moate scored 1-5 in this period without any reply to leave the score at the break at 2-5 to 2-2 to the visitors.

The second half saw a bright start from Garrycastle who scored three points without reply to leave the match level by the 40th minute. The second half followed the pattern of the first half and midway through Moate again took control and produced three further points without reply to consolidate their lead. Garrycastle struggled during this period and their attacking efforts lacked creativity, conviction and co-ordination. Moate then went four points ahead and a late score from a free by Noel Galvin was all Garrycastle had to show for the last 20 minutes of the game.

There is plenty for the team to reflect on after this performance as the work rate and execution of the game plan needs improvement.
