TANG 1-12          GARRYCASTLE 1-10

An experimental Garrycastle team lost out to the home side in Tang on Bank Holiday Monday. This was the senior team’s first defeat of the year and puts an end to the 100% league record. On a wet and windy afternoon, the match was delayed by 30 minutes due to the late arrival of the referee and when the game eventually started it took both teams a long time to find any rhythm. Two Michael Monaghan points opened the scoring but Tang enjoyed a good spell and led by two points after 20 minutes. A well-worked move by Garrycastle ended with Tom O’Halloran palming the ball to the net but Tang finished the half strongly and led by 1-10 to 1-5 at the break.

With the wind in their favour the Garrycastle forwards had a plentiful supply after the break but it took over ten minutes before Michael Monaghan opened the second half scoring and despite missing several good opportunities they eventually drew level at 1-10 each with just a few minutes remaining. The momentum should have been with Garrycastle but instead it was the home team that got the last two points – their only scores of the second half – to secure the two points.

GARRYCASTLE: Mark Keenan, Enda Keena, Jack Donohue (0-1), Bill Kelly, Frank Farrell, Mark McCallon, Neill Rattigan, Mark Curley, Matthew Guiheen, Michael Monaghan (0-5, 1 free), James Dolan, Gary McCallon, Tom O’Halloran (1-0), Conor Cosgrove (0-2, 1 free), Alex Gardiner (0-2).
