GARRYCASTLE 1-11 MOATE ALL WHITES 2-5

Garrycastle produced an excellent team performance to defeat Moate in Moate on Friday last. Garrycastle were forced to concede home advantage due to a waterlogged pitch but this did not impact on the performance. Eoin Monaghan opened the scoring with a point and this was followed by a Moate point before Noel Galvin pointed to restore the lead for the Green and Red.  Moate then caught the Garrycastle defence on the hop and took the lead with a goal after 7 minutes. Points from both side left Moate leading by 2 at this early stage in the match. Garrycastle then produced a series of well taken points in a four minute spell before raising the green flag with a good team move which was finished to the net by Michael Monaghan. A point from Tom O’Halloran left the half time score at 1-8 to 1-2 in favour of Garrycastle.

The home team on the night were first off the mark in the second half and it was O’Halloran again who pointed for Garrycastle to restore the 6 point lead.  Moate were right back in the game at the mid-point of the second half when they produced their second goal on the night to leave three points between the sides. It was during this period when Moate started to dominate and produced a series of attacks which were either broken up by the Garrycastle defence or resulted in wides. They reduced the margin to two points before Kenny Dolan responded with a further point. The two teams traded a further point each before Referee Michael Galvin called time.

This was a good solid team performance by Garrycastle with great endeavor and discipline by the players which delivered a well fought and deserved win.
