GARRYCASTLE 4-7            CORALSTOWN/KINNEGAD 2-3

Garrycastle secured their first points in the league with a well deserved win over Coralstown/Kinnegad in sun drenched Garrycastle last Monday evening. Coralstown/Kinnegad only travelled with 13 players, so both sides agreed to play a 13-a—side game.

Garrycastle were quickly into their stride and registered a point in the 5th minute from Jack O’Connor. The game’s first goal arrived soon after as Conor Mulvihill was on the end of a flowing move to score smartly. Jack O’Connor had a second point for the home side as they continued to have the lion’s share of possession. Cathal Mannion pointed soon after and a second Garrycastle goal was scored by Jack O’Connor in the 13th minute. The same player soon had his second goal, and Garrycastle’s third, in the 18th minute. Coralstown/Kinnegad registered their first score, a goal, in the 23rd minute and added a second goal a couple of minutes later to leave it 3-3 to 2-0 at the break.

The second half was a more even affair with both sides finding it difficult to convert chances. Ross Mulvihill pointed for Garrycastle but Coralstown/Kinnegad responded with two points of their own. Colm Henry was on the mark for Garrycastle and Jack O’Connor got his third point of the game to stretch his side’s advantage. Coralstown/Kinnegad had a point from a close range free but Garrycastle upped the tempo again and a goal from substitute, Colm Lynch who was making his Garrycastle bebut, after excellent approach work put the result beyond doubt with just 10 minutes remaining. Cathal Mannion completed the scoring soon after and Garrycastle were deserved winners on a scoreline of 4-7 to 2-3.

There were excellent performance by the lads and in particular in defence from Mark Denby, Brian Leahy, Caolan Jameson and Bill Kelly. Conor Miulvihill and Cathal Mannion were on top in midfield throughout. Jack O’Connor took the scoring plaudits and was well supported in attack by Ross Mulvihill, Jack Brody (who retired with a hand injury) and Colm Lynch.
