GARRYCASTLE 5-14 SHANDONAGH 0-6

Garrycastles second team travelled to Shandonagh on Bank Monday to play this League Division 2 encounter in wet and windy conditions.  Deciding to play against the wind in the first half the Garrycastle team came out the blocks with gusto stringing together a fast flowing move, running the ball the length of the pitch where a clinical Conor Cosgrove finished to the net.  Shandonagh replied with a point before another scintillating Garrycastle move left Alex Gardiner through one on one with the Shandonagh goalkeeper, Alex finishing with aplomb. Shandonagh  still had a foothold in the game and scored two points on the trot leaving the score 2-0 to 0-3 after twelve minutes. Garrycastle, sticking to their game plan, and with an excellent defence, took complete control of the game scoring the next six points in a row, Conor Cosgrove with four and Alan Daly with two. Conor Cosgrove finished off the first half scoring with his second major.

Playing with the wind in the second half Garrycastle was careful to keep playing their running game despite Shandonagh scoring the first two points of the half. Captain Anthony Larkin finished with a classy point after a flowing move, and having conceded another point Garrycastle put Shandonagh to the sword with two goals in quick succession from Alan Daly and Paul Mulvihill.  Shandonagh were not to score for the rest of the half while Garrycastle finished the game with seven more points, five from Alex Gardiner, and one a piece from Alan Daly and Noel Galvin.

This was an excellent displayfrom this Division two team and for the second game in a row Garrycastle conceded just six points.  While all six backs played very well, Tom McHugh, Anthony Larkin and Jack Donoghue were outstanding. Justin Barrett launched most of the Garrycastle attacks from centre half back while Conor Cosgrove, Alex Gardiner and Alan Daly impressed in the forwards.
