GARRYCASTLE 1-11 TANG 0-03

Garrycastle secured two valuable League points with a comprehensive win at home to Tang on

Saturday afternoon following two recent losses in the Division 1 campaign.  The home team opened their account with a successfully converted '45' from the boot of Goalkeeper Cathal Mullin to level matters after the visitors had earlier pointed from play. Conor Cosgrove got on the end of a speculative shot from Alan Daly and while being challenged by the goalie managed to put the ball over the bar to double the home team's score after 12 minutes. The next score which came five minutes from the end of the first half was a pointed free from Michael Monaghan to leave the half time score at 0-3 to 0-1 to the home team. The low scoring first half reflected the home team's strong defence and their inability to convert the scoring opportunities that they managed to create.

The introduction of three County players at the start of the second half had a major impact on the outcome of the game. Following a Conor Cosgrove pointed free, James Dolan got the first of his three points. Tang then doubled their tally before Gary McCallon extended the home team's lead further. Another Tang point followed but this proved to be their last score as Garrycastle took a tight grip on the game. A further point from James Dolan was followed by a goal from Conor Cosgrove who was set up following a superb run from Dessie Dolan. Michael Monaghan doubled his account with a well taken point from play. James Dolan then contributed his third point of the day. Tang had a player dismissed by Referee Declan Nugent which made their task all the more difficult at this point in the match. An injury to a Tang player resulted in a stoppage in play for a number of minutes. On the resumption Garrycastle continued to add to their tally with a trademark Dessie Dolan point from close to the side line which sailed high over the bar. Garrycastle's final score came from John Gaffey who came through from defence to fist the ball over the bar.

A satisfactory performance by Garrycastle who performed much better in the second half but have room for improvement. Garrycastle wish Tang player Conor Marlow a speedy recovery from the injury he sustained during the game.
