Garrycastle 0-13  Athlone 1-07

Garrycastle minors put in a dominant display in the local derby this week as they overcame Athlone on Wednesday evening. From the off, Garrycastle took control of the game and used a slight breeze to their advantage to take some very well worked points, going in at the break 0-9 to 0-0 up. Athlone to their credit never gave up and came out strongly in the second half, quickly reducing Garrycastles lead to 5 points. Garrycastle however managed to contain the onslaught in defence, while also taking full advantage of their opportunities in front of goal. Athlone managed to finish with a quick succession of points at the very death to reduce the lead to 3, however Garrycastle can come away satisfied with their overall performance. We can keep an eye on this talented group of players as championship approaches.
