The division 6 went down heavily to Athlone on Sunday last in Garrycastle. Fielding with eight players who had participated in the division 3 victory on the evening before against a fresh Athlone side it was always going to be an uphill battle for the Garrycastle side.  The home side won plenty of possession in the first half but many of their attacks broke down as they got near the Athlone goal  and were very exposed on the counter attack. They fought hard to contain the visitors with the halftime score 2-7 to 1-3 to Athlone.

As the second half wore on fatigue was showing on the Garrycastle lads as they struggled to keep the score down. In the last ten minutes the floodgates opened with Athlone adding to their otal. However, the Garrycastle team can hold their heads high as they gave all they had for the green and red.  Fielding three teams inside 48 hours is a big test on resources in a club but overall it was a successful weekend for the club with 2 out of their 3 teams winning and  around 40 players getting football.
