Garrycastle hosted Kilbeggan on Saturday May 4th for an entertaining match played in ideal conditions. It was a must win game for the home team who had only secured 1 League point from 6 games in ACL Division 3 to date. Garrycastle got the ideal start with a well-executed goal by corner forward Jason Nugent within 5 minutes of the throw-in. Following points from Paul Mulvihill and Sean Brennan (a free), the visitors rocked the home team with a goal after 10 minutes and by the 25th minute, the sides were level.  A reshuffle of the Garrycastle team with the introduction of Robbie Shine paid off as he provided Garrycastle’s second goal in addition to 2 converted frees.  With Jason Nugent providing the last score of the first half, the home team entered the break with a relatively comfortable lead of 2-6 to 1-4.

The 2nd half continued favourably from the home side’s point of view with the score at 2-8 to 1-6 by the mid-point. However, with 10 minutes remaining Kilbeggan hit with their 2nd goal to narrow the gap to 3 points at that stage of the game. This resulted in an anxious end to the game for the home team which was made more anxious when Kilbeggan netted for the 3rd time to draw the game with 5 minutes remaining. Further points from Jason Nugent and Robbie Shine (a free) steadied the ship and sealed the deal on the night.
