Mullingar Shamrocks 0-12 GARRYCASTLE 1-08

Our division 1 side suffered a one point defeat to Mullingar Shamrocks last Sat evening in round 8 of the league. The game played in Springfield in ideal conditions was a close encounter all through and Garrycastle playing minus a number of regulars due to injuries and unavailability were denied the win when a Shamrocks defender made a great block on Michael Monaghan's goal bound shot in the last minute. Garrycastle played some nice flowing football in the first half benefiting from quick early ball into the full forward line resulting in a excellent goal from Alex Gardiner. The evergreen Dessie Dolan making his first appearance of 2019 also got his name on the scoreboard with a well taken free leaving us 1-06 to 0-06 to the good at half time.

The second half was a much tighter affair with a lot of frees in contrast to the more open first period.Injuries to regulars Justin Barrett and Matthew Guiheen during the second period effected our ball winning ability and Shamrocks were able to tag on the few points to record a one point win.Whilst management will regret a few scorable point chances missed during the second half considering the amount of changes required both before and during the game on the night they will be happy with the effort of all.
