Garrycastle continued their sequence of recent wins when they defeated Shandonagh in Garrycastle on Friday evening last. This was a game in which fortunes for both teams turned on a number of occasions. After 10 minutes Shandonagh led by 0-5 to 0-0 but by halftime the scores were level at 0-6 each.

Garrycastle continued their dominance in the third quarter and built a six point lead, Jack Donohoe finishing a fine move to the net, and looked to be in control of the game.  A quick Garrycastle  kickout was lost and suddenly a Shandonagh forward was chipping Shane McEnry to reduce the lead to three points. Another point reduced the lead to two and the pressure was on Garrycastle. However, they responded well with points by AlexGardiner and Jason Nugent and a very good individual goal by Jason to finish the scoring.

In the end it was a hard fought win for the home side after a very slow start. Encouraging parts of the display was that Garrycastle had seven different scorers and played some lovely open football. For a time in the game the Garrycastle midfield found it difficult to deal with the fielding ability of Shandonagh midfielder, David Duffy, on the Shandonagh kickout. However, this was overcome which helped to give the homeside control of the game. This was a solid performance considering that there were five players missing from the last game. This leaves Garrycastle on 9 points in the league table with two rounds to go.

GARRYCASTLE: Shane McEnry, Anthony Larkin, Jack Donohoe (1-0), Mark McCallon, John Gaffey, Eoin Mulvihill, Gary McCallon, Doran Harte, Jonathan Maguire (0-1), Dylan Keegan (0-1), Andrew Monaghan (0-2), James Sheeran, Ger Henaghan (0-1), Alex Gardiner (0-4), Jason Nugent (1-3).

Subs Enda Keena for Dylan Keegan.
