The first match of the 2019 Division 1 campaign was a disappointing affair from a Garrycastle point of view. Played in Garrycastle on Saturday afternoon in stormy weather conditions, it was the visitors who took the initiative and were 2 points up before the home team registered their first point from Jonny McGuire. Apart from a  converted free by Conor Cosgrove, Tang dominated proceedings in the first half and had 7 points on the board when on 30 minutes, Michael Monaghan raised the green flag for Garrycastle with a shot close on goal from a very narrow angle to leave only two points between the teams at the break.

Needing to raise their performance in the second half, Garrycastle were rocked by an early goal from Tang which left 5 points between the sides.

A further point by Tang was cancelled out by a point from play by Michael Monaghan. While Garrycastle were more competitive in the second half and defended well, they lacked creativity upfront and lost out to a seemingly more motivated Tang team. Alex Gardiner got Garrycastle’s only other point of the second half to leave 4 points between the sides at full-time. This is a game that Garrycastle will want to forget and they will know that serious improvement is needed if they wish to defend their League title.
