Garrycastle suffered their 2nd defeat in the league in Rosemount on Sunday morning last. Playing with the wind in the first half they were sluggish, lacked sharpness, cohesion and never showed the fluency that was apparent last year. After taking the lead twice in the first quarter the Garrycastle boys went behind after 17 minutes and were always playing catch up after that. Frees from Sean Brennan and Conor Cosgrove (2) and three from play by Alex Gardiner (2) and Michael Monaghan brought Garrycastle ‘s halftime score to 0-6 to Rosemount’s 0-7. The forays into attack by the Rosemount midfield caused the Garrycastle defence problems in the first half.

Facing the strong wind and having a point deficit Garrycastle’s task was enormous. Workrate was increased from the first half and players battled hard. In spite of this Rosemount got the first four points of the half to build a five point lead. Frees from Alex Gardiner and Conor Cosgrove reduced the lead to three. A Rosemount point was cancelled out by another Conor Cosgrove free. In spite of constant pressure the goal that Garrycastle needed failed to come. Two injury time Rosemount points increased the margin to five. In spite of the sluggish performance there were positives from the game also; newcomer Eoin Mulvihill did very well, the returning Jack Donohoe and Justin Barrett also showed well, the experiment of playing Mark McCallon at centre forward was quite successful. The next outing is versus the Downs away on Friday evening next.
