GARRYCASTLE 1-15, CASTLEDALY 0-12

The senior team had their third championship win on Sunday evening in Tubberclair at the expense of Castledaly. From the second minute Garrycastle were in control of the game, but while threatening to put Castledaly away they never succeeded. Defensive frailties showed early in the game when Castledaly missed an early goal chance and also had a penalty saved by Shane Moran for a 45 metre kick which was converted. Some of their attacking play was of a high standard but their defensive performance was not. They also found it hard to regain possession from their own kickouts. With the score at 4 points to 3 after 19 minutes good play by James Sheeran released Cathal Mannion who fed Tom O'Halloran who goaled. Shortly after, Conor Cosgrove brought a good save from the Castledaly goalie. Garrycastle added another five points to Castledaly's three, leaving the halftime score at 1-9 to 0-6.

Garrycastle added the first two points of the second half but from the 3rd to the 10th minutes Castledaly added four to their tally to reduce the lead to four. Three on the trot from the 15th to the 18th minute restored Garrycastle's seven point lead. Two late Castledaly points to Garrycastle's one completed the scoring. On the positive side Garrycastle had seven different scorers and showed good movement in attack. In midfield Doran Harte worked very hard and shipped a lot of punishment while Eoin Monaghan probably had his best ever game in a Garrycastle jersey. However the defence conceded too many frees, some of which were not converted, and still the majority of Castledaly's scores came from placed balls.

The next round is against Rosemount and is scheduled for the weekend of September 7th-9th.
