GARRYCASTLE 3-16 MILLTOWNPASS 1-09

Played in Garrycastle on Tuesday evening this division 1 game gave the home side  the points they needed to ensure qualification for the league final. After a slow start by the Garrycastle side during which they conceded 1-2 they began to win possession in the middle of the field and find their scoring boots after 10 minutes. During the next 11 minutes they scored 1-8 before Miltownpass scored again. Gary McCallon scored the goal, coming in at the end of a number of passes, after initiating the move. Two more points left the halftime  score 1-10 to 1-3.

An injury to Mark McCallon midway through the first half forced his substitution with Neil Rattigan replacing him. Miltownpass scored first the first point in the second half but it was replied to by a James Sheeran goal. In the next 12 minutes Garrycastle outscored their opponents by 4 points to 2 before Cathal Mannion added a third goal. The management then emptied the bench for Garrycastle. After another Ger Henaghan point Miltownpass got 3 unanswered points before Garrycastle finished with 2 points. Miltownpass’s county players caused their opponents some trouble with a great tussle developing between Finbar Coyne and Mathew Guiheen. In the middle of the field Sam Duncan outfielded Jonathan Maguire for a period in the first half but Jonathan figured out how to play him and began to break the ball with his colleagues completely dominating the breaks. The Garrycastle lads used the ball better, their movement and passing led to scoring chances being created.
