Minor League (Division 2)

The Garrycastle minors got their league campaign off to a winning start on Sunday morning when they entertained Lilliput Gaels, a St. Malachy's and Ballinagore combination.

The home side opened the scoring through Joe Carmody, and Dylan Keegan followed this up with another point shortly after. Lilliput leveled the game up and if it wasn't for some wayward shooting could have been ahead half way through the first half. For the last 15 minutes the Garrycastle lads really upped their game, Joe Carmody hit the net with a well taken shot, while Brian Ruane & Phillip Monaghan combined well twice to put 2 more goals passed the Lilliput keeper. Joe Carmody added a couple of well taken points before half time.

Garrycastle started the second half well, but they were not having the same impact on the score board as they did in the first, this buoyed Lillput and they started chipping away at the 11 point lead, slowly but surely Lillput closed the gap to 2 points. However the Garrycastle defense lead by Colm Lynch and Eoin Mulvihill held firm and closed the game out.

Plenty of positives for the Garrycastle lads to take out of the game, with the vast majority of the scores coming from open play, and also the determination the lads showed in the last 10 minutes to see off a strong Lilliput fight back.

Great to see Joe Carmody back in a Garrycastle jersey, and we would like to wish Brian Ruane a speedy recovery.
