Garrycastle  2-8   Athlone 4-17

After two wins in the championship to date the juniors good run came to a sudden halt when they played Athlone in Pairc Ciarain last week.  Having lost players to the seniors and to  holidays Garrycastle  were down eight players since the first round.  Despite this the lads competed well and stayed in touch until a few minutes before halftime when they were only three points down but the latter stages of the half saw Athlone scoring 1-3 to leave the halftime score 3-7 to 1-4.  It was a very open half in which both sides had goal chances. The Garrycastle   goal came from Paul ODonovan and the forwards had some good chances that didn’t yield a goal.  At the other end   Garrycastle  goalkeeper Shane McHenry brought off a good save The third quarter saw Athlone build a big lead as the Garrycastle  challenge faded.  However a goal by Alan Daly revived Garrycastle ‘s challenge to some degree and they added a further three points. It was a difficult evening for the Garrycastle  players but an inexperienced team gave  their best.
