GARRYCASTLE 0-9 Athlone 3-20

Garrycastle’s Junior team made their exit from this year's championship on Friday last at home to near neighbours Athlone with a mediocre performance from an understrength home team.

This was a one sided contest with Athlone the dominant team for most of the game. Athlone were 3 points to the good before Paul Mulvihhill opened Garrycastle's account which was quickly followed by a point from Robbie Shine. This was as close as it got as Athlone took control and by the 15th minute were 6 points in front. Garrycastle managed two more points in the first half while Athlone went on a point scoring spree and wrapped up the first half with a goal to leave the score at the break 0-4 to 1-15 in the visitors' favour.

The second half was defined by Athlone's addition of two further goals while Garrycastle had little to offer in terms of scoring threat. As the gap in the score line increased both sides emptied their benches.
