GARRYCASTLE 1-04 CASTLEDALY 1-10

On a fine, but blustery afternoon in Garrycastle, the clubs third team came up short against Castledaly. Starting brightly, Garrycastle had the lions share of possession in the first quarter, but only had a single point, (a free from Bryan McCormack), to show for it. Instead in the swirling wind, they kicked a succession of wides and the game was levelled just on the quarter hour mark, when Castledaly opened their account.  Almost immediately, Castledaly took the lead through a fortuitous goal, which was deflected for an own-goal past Michael Fagan in the Garrycastle goals. Castledaly then had a purple patch and knocked over a further 4 points before the break, while smothering any Garrycastle attempts at a comeback. The half-time score was 1-05 to 0-01 in favour of the visitors.

Garrycastle made a number of changes at halftime, with Alan Daly and Paul Gunning entering the fray to give some scoring options. However, Castledaly had the better of the opening period of the second half, with an early point, with Garrycastle responding with a point from Bryan McCormack, who reacted fastest when a Philip Monahan shot on goal was blocked. Just on the 45 minute mark, a foul on Eric Kearney saw Alan Daly step up to take and convert a penalty, and this was quickly followed by a further point from Bryan to reduce the gap between the teams to just three points. However, any hopes of a further comeback were dashed as Castledaly took control of the game in the middle third, and kicked a number of points to widen the gap. Indeed, except for a great save from Michael Fagan late on, the gap could have been wider. A final pointed free from Bryan closed the scoring for Garrycastle, with the visitors fully deserving of their win on a final scoreline of 1-10 to 1-04.
