Garrycastle suffered their first defeat of the year in the ACFL division 1 on Friday evening last. They started the game very well with a goal from Tom O’Halloran  following good work by Owen Monaghan.  Another move almost immediately resulted in Tom O’Halloran   flicking the ball over the bar, a ball which could just as easily gone under the bar. Dessie Dolan added another point from play after 7 minutes. But this was as good as it got for Garrycastle .  Tyrellspass soon showed that they meant business bringing an intensity to the game  that Garrycastle  never matched. Tyrellspass gradually worked their way back into the game scoring four points to one from Dessie Dolan for Garrycastle . They then added a goal to their tally when they worked the ball through the middle before finishing to the net leaving the score at 1-4 to 1-3 in favour of tp.   Four more tp points were responded by Garrycastle  with 2 points from Dessie Dolan and James Sheeran  leaving the half time score at 1-8 to 1-5.  A feature of the first half was the number of goal chances that Garrycastle  created but missed.

On the resumption Justin Barrett had the ball in the tp net within a minute to level the game. This came after a free from Dessie Dolan fell short and Justin got his fist to it first to score. This score didn’t quell the tp onslaught and they pushed on with two points.  Two  points from frees by Conor Cosgrave kept Garrycastle  in touch but the last quarter was  tp’s adding five points without reply. This was a very flat display by  Garrycastle, their worst of the season.  Their cause was not helped by an injury to Jack Donohoe early in the second half forcing him to retire. Both teams were short their county players but the greater appetite and fitness of the tp players made the difference.
