The Garrycastle Div 5 squad travelled to Rosemount for this re-fixed game on Friday evening last. Originally fixed for the previous week, Rosemount requested a postponement because of a difficulty fielding and ironically this week two weddings, injuries and Bank Holiday weekend left Garrycastle short on numbers while the Rosemount 2nd team had access to a full squad which they used to great effect. Playing games is what this squad is all about and despite the easy win for Rosemount there were some positives to be taken from a Garrycastle perspective.

Despite travelling without Paul Mulvihill, Emmet Ward, Bryan McCormack, Robbie Shine, Robbie Fox, Eric Kearney, Philip Monaghan and Gavin Ward this Garrycastle 3rd team still togged 17 players on the night. The loss of Paul Gunning through injury late in the first half was a blow for Garrycastle but this young team never gave up and a disallowed goal in the final few minutes of the match was an indicator of the battling qualities of this side.

Colm Lynch and Adam Keena continue to improve with each game and gave a great display not only defensively but also in their willingness to push forward in support of the play.

Michael Fagan in goal was safe and confident under the high dropping ball, his kick outs were strong and accurate and his 5 or 6 saves one on one with Rosemount forwards were top class at any level.

This was one of the best displays by a goalkeeper in the Castle colours for many a day.

Conor Duignan and Cathal Mannion battled hard at midfield while Enda Keena ran himself into the ground in his efforts to link the midfield and forward plays.

GARRYCASTLE: Michael Fagan, Richie Byrne, Sean Carey, Ben Kennedy, Jason Turley, Colm Lynch, Adam Keena, Cathal Mannion, Conor Duignan, Enda Keena, Paul Gunning, Paul O'Donovan, Mark Denby, Franko Doolin, Darragh McCormack, Eoin Duignan, Peadar Mulvihill.
