Garrycastle were first off the mark with a point from play by Cathal Mannion. This was a false dawn however, as the Lilliput Gaels combination team took over and scored 1-5 without reply. Garrycastle did have opportunities from frees and open play but rushed the chances a little and did not benefit from them. As the end of the first half approached, a fine point from Brian Ruane and a pointed free from Cathal left five points between the sides.

Conor Mulvihill replaced Brian Ruane at half-time, and his presence in the centre of the field helped Garrycastle to narrow the gap somewhat with points from Oisin Langan and two from Cathal (one a free). However, indiscipline in the half-back line cost Garrycastle dearly, as Lilliput Gaels scored five points in succession, all from frees. It got worse for the Garrycastle team when Conor was shown a black card, seeing the introduction of Colm Henry and a re-shuffling of the Garrycastle midfield and forwards.

A further blitz of 4 points from Lilliput Gaels effectively put this game out of Garrycastle's reach, although they did continue to threaten and almost had a goal with a fine effort from Cathal. As the game entered the last five minutes, Colm Henry was fouled in the area, but Cathal was unable to convert the subsequent penalty, driving the ball over the bar.

A match that had absolutely no rancour of any sort then boiled over in added time, with a bout of handbags in the middle of the field. Once the dust had settled, the referee handed out a number of red and black cards, including a straight red card to Mark Denby. It was a somewhat pointless end to what had been a fine game of football.
