Garrycastle's first outing in this year’s Junior Championship was unsuccessful as they were defeated away to Caulry on Friday last. Garrycastle were on the back foot from very early in the game when Caulry’s first attack produced a goal which was quickly followed by a sequence of points to put them 1-3 up before Garrycastle responded with a Kenny Dolan converted free after 20 minutes. Caulry produced two more points and Enda Keena responded for the visitors just before the break leaving the score at half time at 1-5 to 0-2.

It was obvious that an improvement was called for in the second half and Garrycastle were first off the mark with a well taken point from Bill Kelly. Further points from Enda Kenna and a brace from Noel Galvin, one from a free had Garrycastle back in the game by the midpoint of the second half. Unfortunately, poor finishing from the visitors meant that they were unable to reduce the margin below 3 points. Caulry produced two more points before another Kenny Dolan free and a further point from Caulry was answered by a point from substitute Bryan McCormack to leave the home team running out with a four point victory.
Due to a poor first half performance when Caulry were dominant, Garrycastle were always playing catch up and only for poor finishing in the second half this game could have produced a different result.
