A very disappointing performance by the second team was punished by a 12-point defeat at the hands of Ballinagore in Garrycastle last Thursday. Ballinagore were in control in almost every sector and looked far fitter, better organised and more motivated than the home team. Spurred on by an early goal, they kept up the tempo and were not in the least flattered by their half time lead of 2-7 to 0-6.
A good point from the hard-working Sean Brennan on the restart gave some hope to Garrycastle but the visitors then rattled off 1-4 without reply to put the result beyond doubt. Indeed, the margin would have been greater but for some good saves by Shane McEnery, and there were very few positives to take from this game.
Garrycastle: Shane McEnery, Gary Mullery, Mark Curley, Alan Fox, Enda Keena, Neill Rattigan (0-1), Frank Farrell, Robbie Shine (0-1), Sean Brennan (0-4, 1 “45”), Evan Dalton, Tom O’Halloran, Emmet Keena, Alan Daly, Rory McGowan, Brian McCormack (0-2, frees).
Subs: Damien Rushe for Emmet Keena (H/T), Mark Keena for Dalton (35 mins), Ross Mulvihill for Fox (48 mins), Conor Duignan (0-1) for Daly (54 mins) and Brian Leahy for Farrell (55 mins).
