The seniors got back on the winning trail with a comprehensive win over the home team in Kinnegad on Sunday. Despite playing into a stiff wind, Garrycastle had much the better of the first half and led by 1-7 to 0-5 at the break, thanks mainly to a good goal from Conor Cosgrove following an incisive through ball from Doron Harte.
They quickly built on this lead after the break and finished off the contest with two Kenny Dolan goals, both at the end of swift passing movements. This was a good display from Garrycastle despite missing a few players but tougher tests await, the most immediate one being the championship second round match against Killucan next Sunday in Shandonagh at 2.30pm.
Garrycastle: Mark Keenan, Jack Donohue, John Gaffey, Gary Mullery, Anthony Larkin, Mark McCallon (0-2), Gary McCallon (0-1), Neill Rattigan, Aidan Browne, Doron Harte (0-1), Damien Rushe, Mark Curley (0-1), Kenny Dolan (2-1), Conor Cosgrove (1-6, 5 frees), Michael Monaghan (0-3, 1 free).
Subs: Johnny McGuire (0-2) for Curley (38 mins), James Duignan (0-3) for Rushe (45 mins), Sean Brennan for Cosgrove (49 mins) and Mark Curley for Browne (56 mins).
