Garrycastle’s second team delivered a below par performance in their ACL Division 3 game on Friday night against Milltownpass. This was a must win game for the home team as the visitors had a 100% record coming into the game after 6 matches played. Milltownpass were first off the mark with a point before Cathal Mannion goaled by palming the ball to the net when set up by Neal Rattigan after his strong run from midfield. Milltownpass did not panic and were level by the 12th minute.  Another well worked goal followed for the home team after 15 minutes when Matty Guiheen put Michael Monaghan through and he finished the ball to the net with aplomb. The visitors responded well and by the 22nd minute were back in front when they goaled on the third attempt after two blocks off the line. A further point from the visitors left the score at the break at 1-5 to 2-0.

Being a man down, Garrycastle struggled in the early stages of the second half and the visitors tacked on five further points before Cathal Mannion scored Garrycastle’s first point of the match mid-way through the second moiety. Two further points followed from the home team from substitute Conor Duignan and Sean Brennan who earlier moved outfield when Padraig Cosgrove came on to replace Noel Galvin. This mini-revival was too little too late and Milltownpass added two more points while Cathal Mannion completed the scoring for Garrycastle with the last point of the game. Garrycastle struggled to find consistency in this game and despite getting in for two well taken goals created few other scoring chances in comparison to the visitors who displayed more creativity and accuracy in point scoring.
