Delvin showed their intent from the off in this Division 6 game played in Delvin on Monday evening, with a number of early attacks on the Garrycastle goal, yielding two points, (one from a free) in the opening minutes. By contrast, Garrycastle got off to a very lacklustre start, and took until the 14th minute to open their account with a pointed free from Robbie Shine. Delvin stretched their lead again, before a second point from Robbie brought Garrycastle back to within a point. Garrycastle then seemed to finally get to grips with the conditions and raised their game hugely, scoring five unanswered points, the last being a fisted effort from Ross Mulvihill, before Delvin pulled one back on the stroke of half-time to leave the score Garrycastle 0-7, Delvin 0-4 at the break.
The Garrycastle team emerged for the second half a totally different outfit, and totally dominated proceedings from the off. A powerful display in the centre of the field from Jonny McGuire, Neal Rattigan and Mark Curley saw them dominate possession, and launch a non-stop series of attacks on the Delvin goal. A string of 9 unanswered points during this period, saw them into an unassailable lead before Delvin scored their first point of the second half with 46 minutes on the clock.
Garrycastle pushed on hard at this stage, and inevitably this owned up opportunities for Delvin to attack, and twice in the space of 5 minutes they got in on goal, only to shoot wide. Another attack saw an excellent save by Shane McEnery in the Garrycastle goal, while not to be outdone, his counterpart in the Delvin goal saved point blank from Robbie Shine when a goal looked certain. Garrycastle kept the scoreboard ticking over during this time, though, with points from Enda Keena, Ross Mulvihill, Bill Kelly and Paul Gunning. As the game entered the final few seconds, Delvin scrambled a goal to narrow the divide a little.

Overall, this really was a game of two halves. Once the Garrycastle team found their feet and got to the pace of the game, there was only going to be one result. That no fewer than nine players scored in this game, showed the breadth of attacking options available, and at the other end of the field, the defensive unit ably organised by John O’Shaughnessy and Emmet Ward were resolute throughout.
Shane McEnery, Gary Mullery, Emmet Ward, Bill Kelly (0-3), Frank Farrell, John O’Shaughnessy, Mark Curley (0-1), Neal Rattigan, Jonny McGuire (0-3), Ross Mulvihill (0-2), Cathal Mannion (0-3), Enda Keena (0-3), Anthony Larkin (0-1), Robbie Shine (0-4, 0-1f), Paul Gunning (0-2).
