St. Loman’s added the league title to their championship success with this victory over Garrycastle in Lakepoint Park last Sunday morning. Before a very small attendance for what was effectively a league final, the home team were much sharper early on and with Shane Dempsey continuing his recent good form they led by 1-4 to 0-1 after 15 minutes. Garrycastle had played no football since their championship exit seven weeks ago, and rustiness was all too obvious. The absence of eight players from their last championship line-out made their task even more difficult. On a positive note, Dessie Dolan made a welcome return after injury and showed all his old craft and skill. He pointed four frees from difficult angles while cousin James added another to leave Garrycastle 0-5 to 1-6 in arrears at half time.
Loman’s stretched their lead to six points after the break until a superb Conor Cosgrove goal brought his team back into the game. Unfortunately, a few chances to reduce the gap further went astray and the superior fitness of the home team was very evident in the last quarter as they tacked on further scores to run out clear winners.
Garrycastle: Mark Keenan, Gary Mullery, Anthony Larkin, Frank Farrell, Neill Rattigan, Doron Harte, Gary McCallon, Justin Barrett, Johnny McGuire, James Dolan (0-1), Dessie Dolan (0-4, frees), Enda Keena, Cathal Mannion,
Conor Cosgrove (1-0), Michael Monaghan.
Subs: Eoin Monaghan for Keena, Ben Kennedy for Mullery, Enda Keena for McCallon (injured).
