The seniors opened their league campaign with a good home win over Mullingar Shamrocks last Saturday. Both sides had a number of absentees, including county players, but Garrycastle will be happy with their overall display. They showed plenty of determination and good teamwork all through the game and deserved their victory. They started positively with quick points from Conor Cosgrove (free) and Damien Rushe, and these two players continued to show great leadership in attack. A further four points from Cosgrove (two from frees) and another from Johnny McGuire gave Garrycastle a lead of 0-7 to 0-3 at half time.
Kenny Dolan gave Garrycastle a good start to the second half with a neat point and another marvellous point from Cosgrove gave his team a six-point cushion. Shamrocks scored their only point of the second half to narrow the gap and almost added a goal but were denied by a great save by Sean Brennan. In the final ten minutes two more Cosgrove points from distance put the seal on a fine performance. Apart from the scorers, Garrycastle had good performances all over the field and all the players contributed to an encouraging victory.
