Garrycastle Under 14 team put up a brave performance against Ballycomoyle  in the Division 3 Shield semi-final played in Garrycastle on Saturday morning last before losing by three points in a high scoring match which was  highly entertaining from start to finish. The Garrycastle team were short numerous players but full credit must be given to the players that did turn up and especially to the four Under 12 players namely Ben Donegan, Ben Kilkenny, Corey Nugent and Peter Mulvihill who were well and truly able to mix it with the older lads. These four players certainly have a great future in the club with the level of skill that they  displayed despite them being  so young.

Garrycastle had the aid of the strong breeze in the first- half  and held a lead of 1-05 to no score after 15 minutes  until Ballycomoyle got a goal to bring them back into contention and Garrycastle had a four point lead at the half-time break.

The second half was always going to be difficult for Garrycastle as they had to play into a strong breeze but full credit to the entire team in that  they never gave up despite falling behind a few times during the second half and only for the excellent  display of the Ballycomoyle captain and  keeper Garrycastle  could have snatched victory.

Overall, every one of the players that turned up  played their heart out for the entire game and hopefully they will enjoy the winter  break. There is no doubt that there will be better days ahead for so many of these young players as the bulk of them that played on Saturday last are all again underage next year.

Panel:  Neil Costello, Daniel McManus, Joseph Henson, Cathal Redmond, Nataniel O’Neill, Robert O Brien, Dylan Keegan, Daniel Guinan, Peter Mulvihill, Fergal Mullin, Ben Kilkenny, Ben Donegan, Tommy Devery, Corey Nugent, Saumil Sharma.
