GARRYCASTLE 3-06, ATHLONE 1-04

Our U12s enjoyed a winning start in the first round of the league when beating neighbours Athlone last Friday night in Garrycastle by 3-06 to 1-04. In an exciting game from start to finish all the Garrycastle lads on the panel played their part in a deserved win over a strong Athlone team. Playing with the aid of the breeze in the first half, Garrycastle had the majority of the possession through great work from Peter Mulvihill, Ben Kilkenny, Rory Kilgarriff, Cian McCarthy, John McBride and Ben Donegan. However this work was undone by some uncharacteristic way ward shooting in front of goal leaving the half time score 1-02 to 1-01 in favour of Garrycastle.

Playing into the wind in the second half the lads played some excellent football not allowing their opponents the opportunity to get into the game with tight marking and some great blocking.

John Dillon was introduced for the second half and excelled along with vital contributions from Corey Nugent, Frank McKiernan, Andrew Ruane, Stephen Gaffey and Adam Mulvihill.

Athlone worked very hard in the last 10 Minutes to get back into the game but Rishav Gufta, Kirill Egan, Tadgh McKiernan, Niall Awagboro and Brandon Farrell worked tirelessly to ensure the 2 league points went to Garrycastle.

Bill Carmody played very well in goals and was confident throughout the game with some great clearances and kickouts.
