Killucan 3-7        Garrycastle 0-9

Garrycastle’s hope of progressing to the knock-out stages took a serious blow when they lost to Killucan in Cusack Park last Saturday. Early pointed frees Conor Cosgrove and Dessie Dolan were wiped out when Killucan converted a penalty, followed by a point from play. Garrycastle struggled to break down Killucan’s packed defence, and after missing several good opportunities they managed four good points from play from Eoin Monaghan, Aidan Browne, John Gaffey and Conor Cosgrove to lead by 0-6 to 1-1 at half time. With the wind at their backs Killucan started the second half smartly with three unanswered points before Dessie Dolan equalised with a pointed free. With Garrycastle’s backs constantly pushing forward against the massed defence they left themselves open for swift counter attacks and were punished by two goals midway through the half. Try as they might, Garrycastle couldn’t translate possession into scores although Mark McCallon was unlucky when his close range effort came back off the underside of the crossbar, and Justin Barrett kicked a good point from play. Garrycastle must now defeat St. Loman’s in the last group game to have any chance of further progress.
