The juniors collected a second pair of championship points with a good win over Caulry in Garrycastle last Friday. Playing with the benefit of a stiff wind, Garrycastle dominated the first half and picked off some good scores to lead by 0-12 to 0-2 at half time. After withstanding some pressure from the visitors after the break Garrycastle put the game beyond Caulry’s reach when Cathal Mannion scored the game’s only goal after his initial attempt had rebounded off the crossbar. Garrycastle emptied their subs’ bench in the last quarter and ran out winners by ten points. Garrycastle’s defence was solid, with the experience of John O’Shaughnessy, Colman Gantley, Robbie Fox and sub Tom McHugh always evident. Jonny McGuire was the outstanding figure at midfield, well supported by Noel Galvin. The forwards had a great supply all through the game and wasted a lot of chances that might be more costly on another day, but Paul Gunning, Cathal Mannion and Peadar Mulvihill were very impressive in this area.
