Garrycastle 3-14 Coralstown-Kinnegad 0-5

The Juniors coasted to an easy victory over visitors Coralstown-Kinnegad last Friday and remain on course for a place in the knock-out stages of the championship. Garrycastle came into this game with full points from four games whereas Kinnegad had annexed just three points from a draw with The Downs and a walkover from Maryland, and the game was as good as over at half time when Garrycastle led by 1-8 to 0-1. The goal came from Eric Kearney who had only minutes earlier replaced Paul Mulvihill. Garrycastle continued to pick off their points after the break and Eric Kearney then helped himself to two more goals in the space of two minutes to put the gloss on this victory. The team did all that was needed on an evening when they were never really tested and the players themselves will know that much tougher tests await them in the coming weeks.

TEAM: Shane O’Connell, Gary Mullery, Tom McHugh, Ben Kennedy, Anthony Larkin, Mark Curley (0-2), Cian Hayden, Noel Galvin (0-2), Seanie O’Donoghue, Peadar Mulvihill, Cathal Mannion, Enda Keena (0-2), Paul Gunning (0-3, 1 free), Robbie Shine (0-5, 3 frees), Paul Mulvihill.

Subs: Eric Kearney (3-0) for Paul Mulvihill (24 mins); Gavin Ward for Peadar Mulvihill (36 mins); Padraig Cosgrove for O’Donoghue (45 mins); Colman Gantley for Kennedy (51 mins); Brian McCormack for Mannion (52 mins) and John Murphy for Shine (55 mins).

Our thanks to referee Michael Galvin (Tang) who for the second week in a row turned up in Garrycastle with his own four umpires, suitably decked out in white coats. Well done Michael.
