Garrycastle 1-17              Milltown 1-9

The third team opened their Junior B campaign with a good win over Milltown in Garrycastle last Thursday. The visitors had two early points from frees but a well-taken goal by Sean Brennan helped his team settle. Garrycastle dominated the play without making it count on the scoreboard and when Milltown goaled after 15 minutes the sides were again level. Garrycastle kicked some good points from play and led by three after 30 minutes when Milltown were awarded a penalty. However, a great save from Padraig Cosgrove denied the visitors an equaliser and Garrycastle led by 1-8 to 1-5 at the break. The second half was mostly one-way traffic as Garrycastle picked off a succession of points to run out winners by eight.

This was a comfortable win for Garrycastle, whose next game is away to St. Loman’s. With Mullingar Shamrocks making up the fourth team in this group a significant improvement will be needed if further progress is to be made. Best performances on Thursday came from Tom McHugh, Mark Curley, Neill Rattigan, Sean Brennan, Peadar Mulvihill and Paul Gunning.
