MOATE ALL WHITES 2-16               GARRYCASTLE 1-5


Garrycastle had to yield to a very good Moate AW side in Moate last Bank Holiday Monday, in a game played in sunny conditions.


The home side had the better of the early exchanges and had a pointed free within a couple of minutes and added two further scores by the 6th minute. Garrycastle responded with a good attack and a shot was parried by the Moate goalie and broke to Colm Henry but his effort flashed just over the bar for a point. Moate still had the upper-hand and added a three more points to their tally. The home side registered the game’s first goal in the 21st minute when a shot from distance crept in just under the Garrycastle bar. Garrycastle responded in style to that setback and had appoint from Oisin Langan and then a goal of their own when Ross Mulvihill was quickest to react when the Moate goalie saved a shot on goal and found the back of the net from the rebound. The home side had the final point of the first half just before the break to lead by 1-7 to 1-2.


Moate started the second half in determined fashion and added four points to their total in the opening minutes. Cathal Mannion was on target with a point for Garrycastle but Moate had a point in reply. Moate got a second goal mid-way through the second half to put them firmly in control. A point from a free by Cathal Mannion reduced the margin. Moate had another period of dominance and registered a couple of points. Cathal Mannion had a final point Moate finished the scoring with a brace of points near the end to leave it 2-16to 1-5 at the final whistle.

There were good performance in defence by Mark Denby, Caolan Jameson and Bill Kelly. Conor Miulvihill and Cathal Mannion worked tirelessly in midfield. Jack O’Connor, Colm Lynch and Ross Mulvihill were most prominent in attack.
