Under-8 County Blitz (in Caulry)

The Garrycastle under-8 squad travelled the short distance to Caulry on Saturday morning to participate in the latest round of the Westmeath County Under-8 blitzes. On a very miserable wet morning, 22 players made the trip allowing Garrycastle to field two teams on the day. Each team played two matches, and altogether we played Caulry, Maryland/Tang and Athlone.

In the first round of games, Garrycastle played against near neighbours Athlone and Caulry, emerging  successful in both matches. In the second round of games, we played Maryland/Tang with a similar outcome.

Overall, this was another encouraging set of displays from this age group. The focus on the basics of the game is starting to show dividends, with some excellent catching, blocking and tackling on display. This was also the first match for Garrycastle for four players, Kealan McNamara, Callum Hudson, Harry Daniel and Ryan Carberry, and hopefully it will just be the first of many such appearances for all of them in the green-and-red colours.

Picture slide show is now available on the Under-8 webpage.

Well done to all who attended and played with such enthusuiasm and effort on the morning.
Training continues on Monday at 6:30pm, and our club under-8 street leagues continue on Wednesdays at the same time.
