The Garrycastle Under-8 squad travelled to near neighbours Tubberclair on Saturday, to take part in the under-8 county blitz, alongside teams from the host club, Athlone, Castledaly, Caulry and Maryland/Tang.

Due to confirmations, and the bank holiday weekend, it was a reduced panel available, but we still had 24 players make the trip, allowing three teams to be fielded on the day, with each team playing two matches.

The first Garrycastle team, managed on the day by Ger O'Donoghue, played against Athlone and Tubberclair, and was successful in both games. Not to be outdone, the second Garrycastle team, managed on the day by Karl Henson, played against Maryland/Tang and Caulry, and also was successful in both games. The third Garrycastle team, managed on the day by Lorraine Gaynor, played against the second teams from Tubberclair and Caulry, winning against Tubberclair in the first game, while narrowly losing against Caulry in the second game.

Overall, a great display by this young Garrycastle squad. Some great positives can be taken from the day - we are seeing much improved skill from this group, especially in the pick-up, and hand-passing, as well as some fantastic tackling and marking.

Well done to all who attended and represented their club with such distinction. Many thanks to Ger, Karl and Lorraine for managing the teams on the day.
