This re-arranged fixture saw The Downs travel to Garrycastle on Monday evening and in ideal weather we saw Garrycastle put up an impressive performance. Playing with the aid of what breeze there was Garrycastle were quickly into their stride and a point from Robbie Shine got them off the mark early on. Paul Gunning added another point before The Downs got off the mark with a point in the 6th minute. Garrycastle were well on top in midfield and a good supply of ball, coupled with some fine inter-play, saw Garrycastle register further points from Alan Daly (3), Brian McCormack (2), Noel Galvin, Paul Gunning (2) and Paul Mulvihill to lead by 0-11 point to 0-1 by the 22nd minute. In their next attack Garrycastle released Alan Daly in front of goal and he dispatched it to the net with his usual aplomb. Enda Keena added a point but The Downs responded with a point of their own. The sides then exchanged points, the Garrycastle score coming from Paul Mulvihill. Noel Galvin added yet another point for Garrycastle but The Downs had the last score of the half, a point, in the 298th minute, to leave it 1-15 to 0-3 at the break.

Paul Gunning increased the Garrycastle lead on the resumption, but The Downs responded with a point of their own. Robbie Shine pointed and Kenny Dolan pointed from a free in the 36th minute after being fouled himself (this was the only Garrycastle score from a free during the game). The Down had a point but Garrycastel continued to dominate. Noel Galvin, Kenny Dolan and Padriag Cosgrove pointed for Garrycastle. The Downs broke through for a goal in the 48th minute but Paul Gunning replied with a point for Garrycastle. The Downs scored a point and a goal in quick succession. However, Kenny Dolan had the final say when he goaled from close range near the end. The final score 2-23 to 2-6.

This was a fine performance from the Garrycastle lads. They displayed fine team-work throughout and hit over an impressive 2-22 from open play in the hour. There were particularly good displays by Ben Kennedy, Mark Curley, Padraig Cosgrove, Noel Galvin, Brian McCormack, Paul Gunning, Alan Daly and Kenny Dolan.
