Garrycastle travelled to Bunbrosna last Sunday morning to take on the home side and came away with a very valuable win in their quest for promotion. Playing into a slight breeze, Garrycastle had a slight advantage in the opening exchanges but each side spurned scoring opportunities before Noel Galvin put over a point in the 5th minute. However, Bunbrosna rocked Garrycastle with a two goal burst with goals 6TH and 7TH minutes and added a point soon after. Garrcastle had a goal opportunity of their own but Tommy Murphy in the Bunbrosna goal brought off a good save from Paul Mulvihill. The home side’s lead was further increased by the 14th minute with another point from play. Garrycastle finally roused themselves and Conor Cosgrove pointed from a free in the 17th minute. A Garrycastle goal arrived soon after when Johnny McGuire was set up after good approach play and he fired a shot to the Bunbrosna net. Points followed from Paul O’Donovan, Enda Keena and Johnny McGuire to level matter as the half time whistle approached. However, a poor kick-out from Bunbrosna saw Conor Cosgrove gather possession and he hit a shot from distance over the goalkeeper to put his side ahead. The half time whistle followed immediately with Garrycastle leading 2-5 to 2-2.

Bunbrosna had the first score on the resumption, a pointed free. Conor Cosgrove also pointed from a free for Garrycastle and he also had one from play to increase the Garrycastle advantage. Bunbrosna mounted an attack, and although Cathal Murray parried the first effort on goal, the home side lashed the rebound to the Garrycastle net. Conor Cosgrove hit over another point but Bunbrosna kept pressing and had two points in succession to level the score again by the 54th minute. Garrycastle showed great resolve in the final minutes and points from Conor Cosgrove and substitute, Kenny Dolan, sealed a close fought win for Garrycastle.

There were good performances from Ben Kennedy, Anthony Larkin and Gary Mullery in defence. Johnny McGuire and Ciara O’Neill gave their side a slight advantage in the middle of the field. Conor Cosgrove and Noel Galvin were most prominent in attack.
