Garrycastle had a well-deserved win over Rosemount on a wet Wednesday evening in Garrycastle. The first half was a low scoring affair with the home team being first off the mark with a point from play from Robbie Shine. This was followed with a pointed free from Conor Cosgrove with Robbie Shine again on the mark to put the home team three points to no score ahead after 20 minutes of play. Two points in reply from Rosemount brought the half time score to 0-3 to 0-2. The first half performance was patchy with a lot of passes going astray so an improvement was needed for the second half.

Garrycastle were first of the mark after the break with a point from Peader Mulvihill. This was followed by Garrycastle’s best period in the game when they hit three points in a three minute spell, first one from Neil Rattigan who was set up by a Sean Brennan pass. Then Alan Daly laid on a pass for Paul Mulvihill to point and this was followed by brother Peader with his second point and Garrycastle’s seventh point to put a clear gap between the teams. A pointed free from Conor Cosgrove was followed by a point from the visitors to bring the score to 0-8 to 0-4 with 20 minutes remaining. Damien Rushe replaced Robbie Shine with 15 minutes to go and following a heavy challenge on Rushe which went unpunished by Referee Declan Nugent a scuffle broke out which resulted in the dismissal of the offending Rosemount substitute and Sean Brennan from the home team. Rosemount reduced the margin to three points with five minutes remaining but Tom McHugh who had an outstanding game settled the home side with a fine point. Rosemount then recorded their last point and the last score of the game to leave the home team with a three point victory.
