St. Malachy’s 1-18        Garrycastle 0-10

Garrycastle’s second team sustained a second defeat when losing to the home team in Castletown-Geoghegan last Saturday evening. Having to play without several of their strongest players because of the Division 1 fixture the following morning, this was always going to be a difficult task for a young Garrycastle team coming up against a good senior outfit. Malachy’s dominated the first half and led by 1-9 to 0-5 at half-time. Garrycastle came more into the game after the break despite playing against the wind, with the team being strengthened by the introduction of some substitutes. While they never really threatened Malachys’ lead, they battled on to the end and scored some very good points. If this team is to be given a fair chance in this very competitive division the fixture-makers will have to show a more reasonable attitude. Asking the club to play both Division 1 and Division 2 games within 20 hours of each other is hardly fair, especially when playing numbers have already been affected by the absence of players on inter-county duty.
