Despite a spirited second half display, Garrycastle’s second team came up short against Coralstown-Kinnegad in this league game in Garrycastle on Sunday afternoon. Garrycastle were short several players and a few others were playing their second game in 20 hours so in that context a narrow defeat to a strong senior team should not cause any despondency. When the visitors raced into an early 1-4 to 0-0 lead after 15 minutes, despite playing into the wind, Garrycastle looked to be heading for a heavy defeat, especially when they were reduced to 14 players after 20 minutes. Inspired by some great points from Sean Brennan, Garrycastle fought back to narrow the deficit to five points at half time. They continued to battle all through the second half and against the odds they managed to outscore the opposition and came close to snatching a draw. This is a very competitive division with four senior teams involved but if Garrycastle can play with the same determination that they showed for 40 minutes of this game they are well capable of consolidating their position.
