St. Loman's 1-11  Garrycastle 1-10

Garrycastle had their first loss in the ACL Division 1 away to St. Loman's last Friday night in Mullingar.
The visitors got off to a dream start when the ball was worked well from the back and Doron Harte crossed to an in rushing Dessie Dolan who palmed the ball to the net after just one minute of play. Garrycastle added to the goal with a '45 which was perfectly executed by goalkeeper Cathal Mullin. St. Loman's eventually settled and delivered four points in a row to level the score by the 20 minute mark. Garrycastle then missed a number of scoring chances including one goal chance which was blocked for a '45. Cathal Mullin again stepped up but this time was unsuccessful.  Two further pointed frees by Dessie Dolan put the visitors ahead. Garrycastle then lost Justin Barrett for a black card infringement. Two further points from St. Loman's brought the first half to an end with the sides level at 1-3 to 0-6.

The first score of the second half just like the first was a goal but this time it was St. Loman's who raised the green flag. Cathal Mullin did well to block the initial shot but the
ball was not cleared and Loman's were quickest to react and find the net. Garrycastle responded with a Dessie Dolan point to keep the visitors in touch. During this third
quarter St. Loman's dominated and started to put daylight between the teams with a lead of five points. Michael Monaghan got on the score sheet for Garrycastle and hit two points in a row to keep the visitors in contention. James Duignan became the second Garrycastle player to receive a black card. In total on the night four black cards were awarded by referee Barry Kelly, two to each side.
With about 6 minutes to go Garrycastle began to come back into the game and were unfortunate not to be awarded a penalty. Instead the decision was a 13 metre free which Dessie Dolan pointed and the same player then pointed from play to reduce the arrears to two points. Loman's rallied again to increase the margin with a point.
With time running out, James Dolan pointed for the visitors which was quickly followed by a Doron Harte point but this proved to be the last score of the game and leave victory with St. Loman's by the narrowest of margins.

Overall, a disappointing outcome for Garrycastle who will rue the fact that they let the home team build up a five point lead in the second half but did well to recover to lose by a single point. On the night, Dessie was the most potent of the forward line delivering the majority of the scores while in defence Jack Donohoe's performance caught the eye.
