The seniors collected two league points from their visit to Tubberclair last Saturday night after a hard-fought win over the locals. This was Garrycastle’s first outing of the year and inevitably there was a lot of rustiness in their play. Against the stiff wind in the first half they defended well but scores were hard to come by at the other end. Tubberclair scored some very good long-range points and led at half time by 0-6 to 0-3. Two quick points from Michael Monaghan and James Dolan after the break left Garrycastle in a good position but their scoring rate dropped after that and several good chances were wasted, including two good goal opportunities. The vital score of the game came after 15 minutes when Dessie Dolan intercepted a short free and delivered a great cross-field pass to his cousin James who beat Gary Connaughton from close range. Further points from Dessie, James and Michael Monaghan pushed Garrycastle five points clear until two late points for the home narrowed the gap to three points, but Garrycastle held on for victory.

GARRYCASTLE; Cathal Mullin, Mark McCallon, Jack Donohue, Tom McHugh, John Gaffey, Karl Henson, Doron Harte, Seanie O’Donoghue, Aidan Browne, Michael Monaghan (0-3), Damien Rushe (0-1), Justin Barrett, James Duignan, Dessie Dolan (0-2), James Dolan (1-3).
