Garrycastle’s second team collected their first points of this year’s league by virtue of a 9-point win over CFCW in Garrycastle on Monday. The visitors travelled the long journey with a depleted outfit while Garrycastle were also without several eligible players, most of whom had played the Division 1 game 24 hours earlier. An early Paul Mulvihill goal gave Garrycastle a good start against the stiff wind but the visitors soon drew level and a goal after 15 minutes gave them the lead. Alan Daly was unfortunate with two close-range efforts that rattled the crossbar but Garrycastle were in a strong position at half time with the teams level at 1-5 each. Two quick points from Conor Cosgrove after the break put Garrycastle in the driving seat and the crucial goal came from a Robbie Shine penalty after Alan Daly had been fouled when bearing down on goal. Alex Gardiner put the icing on the cake in the closing minutes with a superb goal from 25 yards out.
